— The SlickPic Team

As a long term married couple, we are very lucky to be able to travel and go on long haul holidays at least eight weeks each year. In recent years, the way people travel has very much changed and the days of leafing through those brand new travel brochures to get over the post-Christmas blues are long gone, thanks to the Internet.

Today’s travelers have so many destinations available to them as well as so many different types of properties to choose from, it can be a minefield trying to find the right holiday for you. Here are my top ten tips for finding the right trip without all the headaches.

1. Always do your research.

Use as many different sites as you can – do not succumb to the belief that just because a property is listed in the Top 10 on TripAdvisor it will be the right one for you. And vice versa: if it is listed lower down the ratings, it doesn’t mean that it will not be the right one for you.

2. Look at all the photos.

They tell you so much more than words—which is one of the reasons I love posting my destination photos to SlickPic.

3. Contact people who have posted reviews/photos.

Most people are very willing to share information and try to help others have a dream trip. Don’t be shy.

4. Be loyal to a travel agency.

Way back in 2007 we stumbled across a Travel Agent online called Blue Bay  Travel/Caribbean Warehouse who at the time were very small indeed. After due diligence on their company, we booked our trip because they were nice and easy to talk to, treated me well, and were very knowledgeable. Since then, we have witnessed them grow into a multi award-winning company and we continue to book 95% of our trips through them to this day.  Our loyalty has been rewarded with some great deals and second-to-none service.

5. Practice brand loyalty.

Over the years we have been lucky enough to have found several brands of properties that we have liked so much that we tend to stick within those groups, and this allows us to travel to many properties in Mexico and the Caribbean islands. Our loyalty has been rewarded with some very welcome upgrades and occasionally preferential rates with us being repeat guests.

6. Be flexible.

If you can, avoid main public and school holidays as the prices and airfare is more likely to go up then.  If you can be flexible on your dates of travel, research all the flight operator dates and times and if you have a choice of airport, factor all that in.  Sometimes flying on a Monday can be much cheaper than flying on say a Saturday—as can the price of accommodation. Try and book well in advance as prices are normally cheaper and you have the best choice of seats on the plane.  The next two trips we are going on were booked 12 months in advance and both were fantastic deals.

7. Stay at multiple properties.

When we started to travel for leisure, we always booked one destination for a straight 14 nights. Then a few years ago, we started splitting our trip and staying at two properties during the 14 nights as this allowed us to explore two different properties and experience twice the dining options, etc. We now normally travel for 21 nights and take in at least three different properties so that we can mix and match different styles and sizes of property.  Mixing and matching combined with a longer length of trip can drive down the overall rate per night. Long gone are the days when we used to buy an off-the-shelf holiday package. Nowadays we are able to use a travel agent we trust to package together what we select.

8. Book the best you can afford.

As the old adage goes “you get what you pay for.” Consider whether it’s better to stay seven nights in upgraded accommodation with some nice perks than 10 nights in a standard room or vice versa – again, be flexible.

9. Be wary about the price.

If something looks too cheap there is most likely a catch.  Brand new properties normally offer heavily discounted rates, but you need to take into account that there will most likely be teething problems – again, you get what you pay for.

10. Take everyone into account.

Remember that regardless of whether it is just a couple’s trip or a family trip—the trip must work for everyone! Some of the best trips we have ever enjoyed have had a degree of compromise so that everyone got something they wanted out of it.

If you come back from a trip but don’t upload your photos to a gallery, did you even go?

A gallery isn’t just to have something tangible to show your friends and family, it’s a way to document your trips, relive the fun again and again, and track your progress in photography. All travelers need a gallery.

Being to a place like Vancouver Island is a trip of a lifetime. The island is offshore Canada, and it sits at the northeastern Pacific Ocean. The climate was pretty cold during this trip, perhaps because of the island’s surrounding bodies of water. I am not a frequent traveler, but going on this trip makes me crave more adventures. We’ll have a rundown on this picturesque island.

Travelling to the Island

It was a quite a long drive to the ferry docks. As soon as we got there, we drank coffee at the local Starbucks. Fare costs around $100+ Canadian dollars for 5 adults plus vehicle. The ferry was comfortable as can be. You can catch the stunning view, drink your coffee, or work in your laptop inside the cubicles. As we entered the docks of Vancouver Island, the haze didn’t interrupt the beauty of the islands surrounding. The breeze was also fresh and chilly.

Tofino

Tofino is a district in Vancouver Island that offers a marine summertime vibe, since it consists of beaches and aquatic adventures. You can do surfing, whale watching, and fishing. Wind is fast and swooshing here in Tofino, thus surfing lessons are offered everywhere. A lot of shops sell smoked salmon, surfing gear, or beach inspired merchandise. Canadian history and culture are flourishing. Many historical images circle around, and an art gallery by Roy Henry Vickers greets you at the main street. There are numerous beach resorts in Tofino, and we decided to hit the Long Beach. A breathtaking view at Long Beach is a way for locals and tourists to go surfing, sightseeing, and other activities. Might as well take your dog for an enjoyable long walk in this sandy beach.

BC Parliament Buildings

The British Columbia Parliament Buildings in Victoria stunned me a lot. The area is so wide and spacious; a nearby body of water even houses a number of yachts! This significant complex is the home of British Columbia’s Legislative Assembly. The surrounding buildings around the Parliament exude Edwardian Architecture. Homage to Queen Victoria and soldiers who fought for Canada in the past is embodied in their large statues.

Ogden Point Breakwater

One word could only describe this place: wow. The beach beside this 800-meter walkway is so broad and gorgeous. The breakwater walkway itself leads you to a lighthouse at the end of your almost walk on water. Get your windbreakers on though, ‘cause it’s going to be windy! The wind was so strong; it blew away my boyfriend’s brother’s glasses! Walking against air can be such a challenge, but it gives you the rush that’s exhilarating.

Fisherman’s Wharf

Craving for fish and chips? Well, you’ve got to run to the Fisherman’s Wharf. Still in the city of Victoria, this marine destination floats among restaurants, floating houses, and yachts. An awesome fact about this spot is it’s just a few minutes from the Ogden Point Breakwater. Munch on your savory food while enjoying the company of your friends, family, and even the local seals!

A weekend is definitely not enough to explore the other wonders of Vancouver Island. Good thing, I had my Nikon D90 with me plus my F/1.8 NIKKOR 35mm G lens and NIKKOR F/2.8 14mm wide. For trips like these, I recommend the gear I used. Never forget to capture the whole picture and better, the details.

Photography enabled me to capture a typical day in this tropical country. It never goes without the bustling streets, the frantic passengers going in and out of jeepneys, and the warm weather. This is my home: the Philippines.

I have been living in Davao City, a city in the southern part of the island of Mindanao, for almost 22 years. During the shifting years of my adolescence, I stumbled across Photojournalism and loved it dearly. When you look around Davao City, it must be a story-telling haven. This is how I was able to develop my education of capturing tales. In between interesting people and their musings, one can pick up stories from this certainty: the country is thriving, almost crawling, for development. It seems that along with this developing country, I was developing my photography.

How does one develop their photography through their developing surroundings? Here are some of the things to keep in mind:

PAINFULLY ADJACENT. Boxes of milk. Physically reachable. Economically distant.

PAINFULLY ADJACENT. Boxes of milk. Physically reachable. Economically distant.

Open your Eyes and Observe

Since all have different perspectives, seeing and observing people and events may be different for everyone. For me, one trait a photographer must possess is sensitivity. In this way, he or she can see the real story. Context and composition come to play once the photographer sees the vision. In my case, street children always catch my attention. I observe how they talk, play, and interact. I also ask them how they are and what are their views about their present situation. I also do the same with street shop owners, vendors, and the like.

Don't stage your story. Take candid shots.

Don’t stage your story. Take candid shots.

Size Matters

People in your surroundings are oftentimes wary of being photographed. Always keep in mind that somehow, you are entering personal space. Personal space doesn’t just mean people’s physical spaces; it could also mean private property and personal business. Therefore, try your best to bring a small camera. A bridge camera would be great. A DSLR would also do, but I recommend using a prime lens. I suggest 50mm for close-ups or 35mm for wide-angles. When I photograph people or events in busy streets, wet markets, or even inside slums, I always make sure that my camera won’t seem intimidating.

Take advantage of signages to effectively convey your message. Pair it with actions as well.

Composition is key

After you’re done contextualizing your story, you must capture the thought in an understandable. The subject must be visible and direct in your photo, but it doesn’t necessarily mean it should be in the center. The rule of thirds, though heard many times, is a way to let the viewer examine your photo from all corners.  You can also use juxtaposition to emphasize differences. Basically, go with the angles that can best explain your story.

Exposure can depend from the storyteller. High-key or low-key exposure could imply a light mood or a sensitive mood.

Playing with light brings mood and contrast.

Stories don’t stop

Development for me means continuity. It is amusing how I can capture my developing country through my developing photography skills. If one happens to also live in a developing country, the stories absolutely don’t stop. Take advantage of it, and use it for the awareness among members of the community.  Finally, track your development by using SlickPic.
Go! Capture and create stories.

Subjects cooperate if you simply ask for their permission. In this case, this man willingly said yes when I asked politely.

Photograph Sardinia

Sardinia is a beautiful island to visit. Many coastal views great for nature photographers. Sardinia is a Mediterranean island part of Italy. Has a lot of to offer for nature photographers: beaches, forests, mountains, cliffs, animals, harbors, villages. Sardinia has a rich history and special attractions such as nuraghi and towers. Crystal clear sea views. Sometime the color of the sea changes from bright crystal clear to light blue, if the weather is cloudy. Summer has many days with a clear sky and bright sunshine. The light is good for taking photographs around.

Porto Torres

Sardinia has tourist resorts such as Costa Smeralda and also not so well known little villages and cities without many tourists but photography spots with nature and sea view. The best way to go around the island is by car or tour. There is also a train connection but not to everywhere, example to Italy mainland must go by ferry or flight.

How to arrive: there is a port example in Porto Torres with ferry connections to Spain Barcelona, Civitavecchia (near Rome) and to Genoa Italy. Ferries around the year usually everyday. Example Tirrenia, Moby and Grimaldi lines ferries. Those are usually about 100e 1 night but cheaper offers without a cabin. Flights usually available to Alghero and Cagliari. Alghero is a Catalan city in Sardinia and summer holiday destination with beaches. At least sometime there is boat tours to caves and dolphin watching boat trips. Also tours to Asinara island. Cagliari is the capital of Sardinia and there you could see flamingos. Summer season weather could get extremely hot and people go to Sardinia usually for beaches example to Stintino and to Villasimius tourist resorts. Sardinia is still a peaceful holiday destination with a lot of nature.

Sardinia

About the nature

you will see green landscapes, beaches, you could see green hills and mountains, cliffs, palm tree streets close to the sea, lagoons, green valleys, flowers, lakes, birds and more. For bird watchers and photographers there is Molentargius Saline park Santa Gilla lagoon in Cagliari. You could go to Monte Urbino panoramic viewpoint to watch flamingos. See nuragic village in Barumini. If you visit Giara di Gesturi you could see wild horses there. Wild horses of Giara are considered the last surviving horses of an ancient breed. You could see waterfalls example coastal waterfall at Coasta Nieddu on west coast. Asinara island is a wildlife and marine preserve. National Park island of Asinara is home to a population of wild Albino donkeys from which the island may take its name but there is also bulls, turtles, birds, lizards and dolphins. Futurismo has tours to Asinara island http://www.futurismoasinara.com/en/

Stintino beach is famous one of those summer beach destinations

Budelli spiaggia rosa is a pink beach there is some pink sand, La Maddalena Archipelago. Sand is pink due to the numerous shells and little fragments of red corals. About best beaches in Sardinia http://www.charmingitaly.com/article/best-beaches-in-sardinia  You could also see many kind of caves, natural bridges and nature pools made of lime or rocks. Su Pallosu island has a cat colony. There cats play with each other and with visitors. It’s possible to visit the cat island but must book a tour first. Local not-for-profit organization take care of the cats. I like Sardinia and I will return someday.

If you find yourself in the middle of a street festival in Asia it can sometimes be overwhelming. Trying to shoot scenes and people but you don’t have a clue to what is going on or don’t speak the language. It can be chaotic but we have some tips for you to make it easier and much more fun!

I live in the Philippines and here in my city we have two festivals. Other very well known festivals in the country are just a puddle jump away. I got started because of an invite from a fellow street photographer and I got hooked! What’s also fun is that you get to meet new festival photographers and join contests. I’ll share with you what I have learned over the years of shooting festival photography.

Securing a photographer pass will allow you to move around with the performers…

Securing a photographer pass will allow you to move around with the performers…

Secure a Photographer Pass

The most important tip is to get a photographer pass. These days most street festivals in Asia have barriers lining the streets to separate the crowd from the performers. Onlookers are not allowed to mingle with the performers for safety reasons and also not to hinder the flow of the parade.

You can circumvent this by securing a photographer or media pass. The pass can usually be secured from the festival’s office or the local tourism office. Do this ahead of the festival to avoid any hassle. Security personnel usually let photographers with the proper identification through the barricades to shoot freely amongst the performers.

Bring only what you need with you…

Bring only what you need with you…

Travel light…

Choose your gear wisely when shooting street festivals in Asia. You won’t go very far with a trolley or backpack full of expensive equipment. The sheer weight of all the gear will hamper you from getting to the places you need to go to get the perfect shots.

I normally just carry around one body with a wide to normal zoom lens attached. I also have a small point and shoot camera with a telephoto zoom in my pocket just in case I need to shoot something far away. I carry around just a flash, some extra batteries, an ND filter if the sun is extra bright and a gorillapod or monopod.

It would also be wise to bring along an extra shirt or two and some water. The heat can be quite an inconvenience in festivals in Asia.

Know where and when to shoot… and keep moving.

Know where and when to shoot… and keep moving.

Know the Festival Route

Scout the route of the festival a day ahead of the parade. Get to know the important locations like the staging areas, grandstand areas and where the media stays. These are good clues to where the good shooting spots are for the parade.

Look for other vantage points and interesting places to shoot from along the route too. It would be a good idea to get a map and mark the places down so you don’t get lost.

Find unique perspectives like getting the camera high up…

Find unique perspectives like getting the camera high up…

Be mindful of other photographers

I have not attended a street festival in Asia that has not had its fare share of photographers. There will be a lot of them around. So be mindful of your surroundings and see if you are getting in the way of another festival photographer. Photobombing another photographer will surely not earn you any new friends. So keep an eye out for others who are shooting the festival with you and perhaps you will make new friends.

Feel the rhythm of the music to know the high points of the dances…

Feel the rhythm of the music to know the high points of the dances…

Feel the vibe and have fun

The last tip is to get into the festival spirit. Feel the beat of the music and the atmosphere. Once you get the beat, you will know when to press that shutter button for the key shots. It would also be good to let go and just have fun. Dance a little, and join the crowds. You will get a better perspective of the events if you have fun.

Shooting a street festival in Asia is one very unique experience. It is colorful, vibrant and exciting. If you find yourself in a local festival, bear in mind these tips. They will help you get into the action and capture some awesome memories.

Go out there and have fun! Stay safe.

Just have fun in the festival…

Just have fun in the festival…

Are you getting bored of working non-stop and all you can see right now is the big, blue sky, and the waves before you? If you’re daydreaming of the beach right now or you just have that itch to run away from the city and take photos, wear your thinking cap on and plan a getaway to refresh your soul. Not only would the experience energize you, but it can provide you with a multitude of opportunities to take photos you have never shot before. Of course, there are some things you need to prepare and you have to be wary about. Right here, folks, is a list travel photography tips to help you out.

Go out of the box with your travel photos and lose yourself with all the creativity hiding inside of you.

Go out of the box with your travel photos and lose yourself with all the creativity hiding inside of you.

Bring only what you need

When bringing camera gear to an out-of-town trip, it’s tempting to bring everything you have and stuff it all in your bag. Well, here’s me saying you shouldn’t do that because all it will do is cause you stress in your vacation. Remember, the greatest photographers of our time managed to get the shot because they had a camera readily available to them. If you bring all you gear, you would fuzz over what lens to use or set up your tripod first. At the end of the day, all you’re going to need is a camera and the best lens for travel that you own.

Use a Bag that won’t let you down

One of the more important travel photography tips you’re going to encounter is the usage of a competent bag for your camera and other equipment. Having the best camera bag possible will not only help you be more organized with your gear, but it can also protect your equipment from the elements when you are out there on your trip. Just make sure to get a bag that fits you properly and will not be a cause for body pain when you’re carrying it.

Research where you’re going

The beauty of having a world connected by the internet is you can be informed of so many things that weren’t available two decades ago. With that wisdom, you should definitely invest some time into checking the ins and outs of your future destination. This step will help you find out in advance all those spots you can take amazing photos and plan how to execute them.

Among all the other travel photography tips, this step also serves as a safety check because you can be aware of dangerous places and hazardous venues in your itinerary. You can also chat some locals to get an idea where it’s safe to bring your gear.

Always make it a point to know where you’re going to travel so you can be prepared for anything.

Always make it a point to know where you’re going to travel so you can be prepared for anything.

Bring Extra Batteries, Chargers, and Memory Cards

Have you ever experienced accomplishing all your tasks only to find out your phone is low on battery and you left your charger at home? Well, multiply that experience by a thousand when you go on your trip and you only have one camera battery with no charger. That’s why it’s really important to bring not just one battery  or charger for that trip you’ve been planning for a long time. This will ensure your camera will operate through all the important and fun moments without any worries.

At the same time, one of the travel photography tips you should adhere to is the inclusion of additional memory cards. With this tip, you won’t have to worry about deleting any image to make room for more. You can also get a high-capacity memory card if you’re not comfortable bringing around two or three of this vital tool.

Never forget to enjoy the moment

Last, but not the least, on our list is just go with the flow and have fun as you’re out travelling.

Have fun and soak yourself in the moment. Amazing images will soon follow after.

Have fun and soak yourself in the moment. Amazing images will soon follow after.

Your camera is just a tool to capture your memories but it’s not the end-all-be-all of your trip. Why don’t you indulge in a meal you can’t find anywhere else? Or you can also lay down all the stuff you’re hauling around and just enjoy the view with the people you’re with. Believe me, having a once-in-a-lifetime experience is way better than having that once-in-a-lifetime picture.

Travelling is and will always be good for a person. It gives us the chance to refresh our creative perspective and flushes out all the negativity bought by the repetition of work. As such, these travel photography tips can be of great help for your next adventure. And when you’re done with your travel, why not share your amazing shots on SlickPic? It’s the only photo-sharing site that gives you absolute control over your images.

Sri Lanka is a tropical island where some people call it the pearl of the Indian ocean. This tiny island consists of many hidden places to see where mother nature will reveal only to the bravest of the brave hearts.. Mannar is one of the hidden beauties in the country and it has many places to see for an adventurous photographer.

Mannar is a small district in the Northern province of the country. If you are going to Sri Lanka and planning to do a road trip around the country, write down the following places to see in Mannar.

Pearl Fishing

Sri Lanka has been called as the ‘Pearl of the Indian ocean” from ancient times. Apart from the reason that this beautiful island takes the shape of a pear, ancient Sri Lanka has been famous for its superior pearl trading. If you want to witness how pearl hunters dive deep without any scuba gears and fish for pearl, you must go to Mannar. Although the new generation pearl fisherman uses scuba gear to dive, still there are veterans in the area, who would hold the breath under water and go on pearl fishing. Tell you lodge manager that you want to go and see pearl fishing and he will use his network of contacts to arrange it for you. Take your Go-Pro with you and plenty of water as this area is extremely humid and diving can dehydrate you a great level.

Baobab Trees

So, you noticed those trees with a huge trunk on your way to the beach…? Those are called Baobab trees and you won’t see much of those trees and what’s remining can be seen only in Mannar. Some history books tell that ancient Arabian traders have brought this tree to the country so many centuries ago. Well, some of these trees have cavities in its trunk and you might want to go inside and capture a photo or two.

Mannar Dried fish

Mannar Dried Fish

Fishing is the main business in Mannar.  Due to extreme sun light and warm weather, Mannar produces some of the best dried fish in the region. Most are domestic businesses where one would catch fish in its own boat and dry it in the front yard of the house and sell it to a whole seller who would ultimately sell it to the end customer for a very high price. Poverty among these families are common and you may find their houses dirty and unhygienic but they have warm and friendly hearts. Many local tourist buy lots of dry fish from these domestic fishermen as the prices are cheap when you buy from the place of manufacturing. Remember to tell your lodge manager to prepare you an authentic dish with Mannar dry fish for you lunch next day.

Hindu Kovils in Mannar

Hindu Kovils in Mannar

Hindu Kovils

Mannar is primarily an area with lots of Christian Tamils. Thus, you will find lots of churches around. But little further to the town, there are some Hindu kovils (shrines) where most Hindus in the country go as pilgrimages. These Hindu Kovils have unique architecture which is very colourful. Every piece of the building represents some story in the Hindu culture and it is a paradise for photographers who love to create photo stories. All you got to make sure is wear decent clothes and have a good camera. Just to be sure, ask the head priest for permission to take photos because inside the Kovil remains the holiest chamber of the kovil and only the head priest is allowed to see.

War torn buildings

War torn buildings

War torn buildings

Sri Lanka suffered from a civil war for a long time and remnants of it remains in some Northern province areas such as Mannar. Do not be disheartened but be aware of what people here must have gone through when their schools and houses get bombed right front of their eyes. Although some of those buildings provide you great photographic opportunities to show case what war is about to the rest of the world, it still is a very sensitive subject for any Sri Lankan. So, never ever discuss war with Sri Lankans as you wouldn’t know what that person must have gone through and which side that person was in.

Toddy tapping

Toddy tapping

Toddy tapping

Tired and thirsty…? You got to try the glass of traditional toddy from this area. Toddy is an alcoholic drink extract from palm trees. Toddy is a very famous Sri Lankan alcoholic drink and you get coconut toddy and palm tree (thal tree) toddy. In Mannar, what you mostly get is Palm tree toddy. Toddy tapping is a very dangerous job and needs extensive skills and experience. Toddy tappers climb very tall palm trees without any safety harnesses and sometimes even cross among trees using a very thin rope and with absolutely no safety harness around. Ask you tour guide or lodge manager to take you to a place to see how they do this. These are one of a life time photos and you won’t get these shots anywhere in the world. However, I must insist that you should not try to attempt toddy tapping as it is a very dangerous act. Have a glass of freshly extracted toddy for yourself. Have it with some fried sea crabs under a palm tree after your tiresome photo journey.

Long shoreline

Long shoreline

Long shore line

‘Talei-Mannar’, the corner of Mannar district has a beautiful shoreline that stretches towards infinity. Go for a stroll in the evening. If the day is clear, you might even see Rameswaram which is the Southern end of India. Sand is gold and water is warm. All you would see is the horizon where clear blue sky touches the clear blue water.

Before you head back to Colombo, visit the Wilpattu national park where you would capture leopards if you get lucky and have stop at Chillaw where you would see more pearl fishing and can do ship wreck diving.

Mannar is one hidden pearl in the island of Sri Lanka. It is a small miracle that contains vivid cultures, natures, and traditions in a small geological area. If you want to capture some awesome photographs where other travellers haven’t captured in Sri Lanka, then I say you should go to Mannar. Most people go to Jaffna, the prime city in Northern province and stop from there. But I tell you, there are so many hidden places to see in Sri Lanka that are worthy to be seen and photographed.

Hope to see you there soon…!!!

Everyone travels and develops travel photography for different reasons. For some, it is to paint a picture, to show a story that brings other people to that moment even if they are hundreds of miles away. For others it could be a means of expressing their own personal freedom. Capturing moments in time, to be able to have memories for later.

When traveling to a specific location to shoot travel photography, always remember to do your research before arriving. Know what cultural customs are in the area in order to not stick out like a sore thumb. Also what type of moments you will be capturing so you can plan accordingly and take the right type of equipment with you.

In this article we are giving some hints and tips on different types of travel photography. Keep in mind as a traveler you will have to be a jack-of-all-trades and know how to develop high quality images of all types of different styles.

Photographing Friends and Family Members

Whenever you go on vacation with friends and family around the world, you will want to capture these moments. It is a great souvenir to bring home with you but also a way to add more power to certain shots.

When photographic friends and family members remember that they are only a piece of the photograph. If you focus on them too much you will lose perspective of the location. On the other spectrum you don’t want them to be at such a distance that they become a spec in the background. Find some balance.

Also keep in mind you don’t have to take a specific portrait shot for someone to be recognizable.

In regards to Photographing friends and family members: Notice here how you can use someone’s unique features to make them recognizable while still maintaining good representation of the background

Landscape Photography

From the Andes to the Amazons or The Saharan Desert to the Galapagos Islands; all landscape photography is different and very much set by the scene you will be shooting.

Landscape photography is not just limited to what you are seeing with your eyes. It is also a representation of emotion or the thoughts you may feel when arriving to a place.

When traveling to different destinations, it is a good idea to bring a small notebook with you. This will allow you to jot down some emotions you may have when you first arrive to a location. These notes can help a lot when editing photos later.

Photography Tip

If you arrive to the rainforest in the thick of a storm capture that moment. Capture water funneling into ravines, trees stretching from the wind or animals scurrying for shelter.

In regards to Landscape Photography: This represents the eeriness of walking through a cloud forest at sun rise

Photography of Cities and Towns

Just like landscape photography, each city or town has features that make it unique or recognizable. There are three main things you will want to try and capture through photography of cities and towns.  Landmarks the location may be famous for, the culture of its inhabitants and the general sense of the location.

You will often want to use a wide angled lens for this type of photography as to capture as much of the location as possible.

Photography Tip…

A great idea is to look in some tourist stores and check out what locations are on the front of postcards. This will give you some great insight as to good shooting locations

In regards to photographing cities and towns: These Peruvian fishing boats represent a huge part of the culture in Huanchaco, Peru. The boats are made from the indigenous locals by reeds that grow on the local beaches. The reeds are dissipating due to global warming and locals have been known to take their boats into the abyss and never come back as a form of protest.

Photographing Monuments

This applies to those of you that love shooting subjects such as the Golden Gate while entering San Francisco, or Machu Picchu from the Sun Rise Gate

When photographing monuments remember to use light and weather to your benefit. The Golden Gate Bridge may look best enveloped in fog while as Machu Picchu, you may find, looks better at sun rise as opposed to sun set.

Monuments

In regards to monuments: Hatun Machay is a sacred ground located in Peru. Notice the difference in two similar shots when taken at sunset versus during the day time while the fog is rolling in.

Photographing Strangers

With travel photography you often find yourself taking pictures of locals, sometimes by accident while capturing a background, or specifically to show their culture. Photographing natives from a city is one of the best ways to capture emotion in this location. You will see the expressions on their faces that share subtle insight to the on goings in that community.

In some instances you may find it appropriate to candidly take shots. However always remember to be respectful so that you are not invading personal space. Some cultures refuse to have their photographs taken and you may find yourself in a hostile situation. If you are not sure, just ask.

In regards to photographing strangers Always remember to have the trust of communities when taking pictures of indigenous cultures. Relationship building may take weeks or months in some cases.

Always remember to have the trust of communities when taking pictures of indigenous cultures. Relationship building may take weeks or months in some cases.

Also locals may ask for a small fee in order to take their picture. You will often find this in poor regions of the world and will by no mean break your bank account. Always remember, be courteous.

No matter what type of travel photography you are shooting the best tip of all is to take photos. Too many people wait for the perfect shot and miss numerous opportunities searching for perfection. Take photos, looking back on the memories you will see that all of the moments captured were worth taking.

Have you ever wanted to get away from the usual city madness and going for a month long walk in the Himalayas? Maybe, once again, it’s time to pack the bags. The journey begins from Nepal, the land of mountains. Kathmandu is a city usually full of utter chaos. Roads are full of traffic, dust, and animals. Just spend a day or two, packing you bag with necessities. I suggest you stay in a small hotel in Thamel, which is the tourist area. This area is very much safe and have plenty of small hotels to suit your pocket. Get ready for the trip. Make sure you have enough warm clothes with you. Get a thermos and some Chlorine tablets. If you need, get some basic medicines such as antibiotics, plasters, stomach problem tablets and painkiller tablets. Unless you are accustomed to greater heights, I suggest you take a tablet for quick acclimatization too. You ought to get a dust cover for your camera and for your nose. Up in the mountains are covered with a very soft dust that could create a bad cough and ruin the lenses. Make sure you have a rain cover for your bag and camera. Also, you must keep extra camera batteries and a charger as up in the mountains, charging a camera or a phone for one hour will cost you few dollars. Have enough memory cards as most little villages doesn’t have much shops and things could be very expensive.

So, if everything is ready, book your ticket to Lukla and hop in to one of those small planes and get ready to land at one of the most dangerous airports in the world: The Lukla Airport.

Lukla

This is where the journey starts. Lukla is the closest town to Lukla airport. The place is filled with narrow roads, small lodges and shops selling anything and everything to tourist at an exorbitant price. Have a hot meal before you start your trek. Fill your thermos with hot water or black tea, get your walking sticks and lets, start the walk. You are already at an altitude of 2,860 meters. So, take your time and walk slowly enjoying the extreme beauty that surrounds the place. Stop at Phakding for the night. Another small village with too much hustle and bustle for a mountainous area. Get some rest and start trekking the next day.

Lukla, the place to start EBC trek

Lukla, the place to start EBC trek

You will cross the Dud Khosi river several times on the way. This river is one of the biggest rivers in Nepal and absolutely a natural beauty with its ice blue water and curvy rapids. Water is ice cold so do not hope to get a dip in there. Maybe you can spend the second night at Monju and have dhal rice and a hot lemon for dinner. If you need, most lodges here have hot water facilities so could use to refresh yourself.

Crossing the Dud Khosi

Namche Bazaar

This is the last big village you will get on the way. It is a perfect tourist village for a couple of days’ rest. You probably will need this rest as the trek to Namche is very steep and hard. Altitude at Namche is 3,440 meters and this will make you really exhausted. So, you deserve a full day’s rest here in a cozy little lodge. Namche is an amazing place with its weekend market, bakeries, and people. Roam around and you will be able to capture some beautiful photos of lifestyle in rural Nepali families. Young men herding Yak cows, women washing clothes by the river, small kids playing with dirt and mud, men just sitting aside the road and wait for some work can tell a bigger story about the lifestyle.

Namche Bazaar

Namche Bazaar

After Namche bazaar, the look and feel of the trek changes significantly and becomes harder and steeper.  You will notice more Yaks and cows carrying lots of goods to shops and lodges up in the hills. You will hear the bells even from afar. That is the notice asking to move to a side and let the Yaks to move. Path is mostly serene and calm except when you hear those Yak bells. You may stop once at places and get a little rest and hydrate yourself with a cup of black tea or hot lemon.
There are places where you will see the far away snow-capped mountains. But nothing is more glamourous as seen Mount Everest. You will stop for a moment at the very first place you view the top of that majestic mountain. Have a stop at the Tengboche monastery and spend the night at a lodge there. Participate for the early morning spiritual prayer at the temple and get the blessings from monks who stay there. This monastery is a beautiful milestone in the trek and ideal for photographic capturing. You will take stops at Dingboche, Lobuche and Gorakshep in next few days before you start walking up to the Everest Base Camp. Take a day off at Gorakshep before you trek to Everest Base Camp. Maybe you can go to Kalapathar which is located at the south ridge of Mount Pumori. This small black rock is about 5,643 meters in altitude and provides the perfect view of Mount Everest. You can trek to Everest Base Camp which from Gorakshep which is about 2-3-hour trek but be careful of altitude. Walk high and sleep low is the law in the mountains. Do not hurry yourself and get caught up with deadly altitude sickness as it can literally kill a person. You must spend at least a couple of hours at the Everest Base camp and photograph the story of those mountain guides who risk their lives every day to take overly eager mountaineering tourist to the summit of Everest. Everest Base Camp has become a small village of tents nowadays.

Mount Everest from Kalapathar

Mount Everest from Kalapathar

This is the peak of our Everest Base Camp trek in the Himalayas. Of course, there are million and one other treks which you can take and spend the rest of your life wandering in the Himalayas. Because the beauty of this place is unmatchable and serenity will make you forget all the madness in your usual city life. You walk back the same way. Maybe you can do a little D-tour and go to Island Peak (20,305 feet or 6,189 meters) which is another beautiful trekking peak.

Come back to Kathmandu and spend a couple of days roaming around this busy city before you head back home. Visit the Swayambhunatha temple also known as the Monkey Temple in Kathmandu valley. Go to Patan Durbar square and Mangal bazaar where you can capture faith, religion, and culture of Nepal in one place. Killing of goats, colourful gods and romance of youth can be seen and will be objects for some memorable photographs.

Nepal is one country that you need another life time to explore and Himalayas is the heaven of mountains. I know this trip would have given you just the glimpse of it and you are badly want to go back to the mountains once again. So, do I.

Barcelona

Spain has many interesting cities and places to go and places in Spain has definitely some of the most interesting attractions for pictures of Spain. Barcelona is one of the most popular European capitals and often Spain photos has Barcelona included. Barcelona has a lot of to offer for Photographers: beaches, cityscapes, Montjuic mountain, fountains, Parc Güell, Gaudi’s colorful and unique architecture, near by beach cities such as Sitges. If you travel to Spain it’s possibile to visit Sitges by train or ferry. Sitges is a coastal town near Barcelona. Barcelona has many kind of city zones: the city centre and Sagrada Familia and then the beach zones. If you have already seen the whole Barcelona and it’s attractions you could go to visit Sitges by train or by ferry from Barcelona and take photographs. Sitges is a beautiful beach town with white houses. Don’t forget to visit also other places and take pictures of Spain. Bullfighting is not anymore permitted in Catalonia fortunately.

Andalucia

People often say Andalucia is the Original Spain, the real pearl. One of the most charming places in Spain. Go to find out what it means to you. Take Spain photos around Sevilla attractions. Andalucia has many unique places to visit and it’s great for Spain images. Visit Granada’s Alhambra Palace. The name “Andalusia” is derived from the Arabic word Al-Andalus. Visit Sevilla for attractions and photograph. It’s possible to see flamingo birds if you visit Andalucia. Flamingo Lake called as Laguna de Fuente de Piedra.

Mallorca

Mallorca

Mallorca

Mallorca is one of the most popular travel destinations in Europe for summer holidays and no wonder when you take photographs of Mallorca and deep blue sea views. Palma is often full of tourists especially in summer but you can find also different places in Mallorca. Palma is lively tourist city and has beaches, harbour and citylife. Try also Alcudia for the beach holiday. Deep blue sea is beautiful to photograph. You could go by ferry to Spain mainland and to Menorca island. Many celebrities and even Royalties loves Mallorca and the Island is enchanting for many people. Go to find out if you will like Mallorca. Mallorca is popular places in Spain but Menorca has still nature and empty beaches.

Gran Canary Islands

Tourist Islands has Holiday destinations for summer and winter but also something more. Visit Teide volcano and National Park for photograph. My favorite is Mogan, it’s beautiful place to see and photograph. White houses with red flowers around. Puerto Rico I like. I saw tropical landscapes and I saw there a humming bird. If you are lucky you could try to photograph humming bird. Palmitos Park is a park with birds. Sand dunes in Playa del Ingles and Maspalomas. Gran Canary has a lot of tourists visiting and living there. Gran Canary is one of the most popular places in Spain. When I visited there roads were good and I really enjoyed going around the island when I had air condition. Summer weather could be extremely hot but winter is also a good season to visit. If you go to dunes prepare and keep scarf because sand could fly around. If you are looking for city+beach life visit big cities example Puerto Rico, Maspalomas. I found one very beautiful beach called Playa de los Amadores in Puerto Rico. Perfect for photographers who take beach photos. Teneriffe Island has a lot of more flowers and green landscapes than Gran Canary. Gran Canary is mainly dry but Teneriffe is more green. Why you should visit there: if it doesn’t bother that example Playa del Ingles is often full of tourists but you can go to take photographs around the islands.

Spain

Alicante

The sunny coast has beaches for summer holidays and sometimes carnivals. Hike uphill to photograph Santa Barbara Castle. Photograph sea views, palm trees, mountains, streets and boats. Go to boat tour and take photographs of the coast. Nature is mostly dry but you could find also few flowers to photograph. Historic Mediterranean port and ferry connection example to North Africa and Balearic Islands. Costa Blanca (white coast) is one of those popular holiday places in Spain.

National Museum of Cambodia

Any rikshaw person will willingly take you to the National Museum of Cambodia because it is in a such a busy road and they sure to get another hire easily. This building itself is an amazing piece of work in Cambodian architecture. I fell in love with Cambodian Khmer culture from first sight. The museum premise spans around 5,100 square meters. You will see many vendors at the gate of the museum trying to sell an old Lonely Planet books, travel maps and tickets to various cultural shows. After all, tourism is one of the main trades in Cambodia. The museum was built and opened to the public on 13th April 1917 on Khmer New year day. This place protects the world’s greatest Khmer cultural artefacts and Angkorian history. However, the sad news is you are not allowed to take photographs inside the building. So only the artefacts placed outside can be photographs. But, once you go inside, you will be mesmerized by the amazing carvings and mythical gods of Angkorian history.

Well, there are lots of small cafes near the museum where you can have a beer to crunch your thirst in this very humid weather. You had better get a small rest before we head down to see some of the cruellest parts of Cambodian history.

Tuol Sleng Prison

Tuol Sleng was a school transformed to a prison during Polpot, the cruel dictator in Cambodia. Codenamed as S-21 prison, this used to be a place where the Khmer Rouge tortured, interrogated and executed millions of Cambodians and foreigners whom they thought were their enemies. Prisoners were kept in tiny rough cells made inside classrooms of the school and tortured daily till they decide to kill them. Amazing fact was that, the Khmer Rouge has taken a great effort to document all the prisoners they had captured. The details of the prisoners which includes: Name, age, height, weight and photograph were safely filed and the left on site when the Vietnamese army invaded. Prison staff left the prison leaving all the documents. These documents later proved how many has been in this prison and whom they are. Prison cells and torture machines were on display and will make you utterly depressed. Yet again it is prohibited to take photos inside the prison buildings as those photos are not going give any happiness to the viewer. But seeing this place is just a pre-amble to make up your mind before you go to the “Killing Fields”.

You would have to take a rikshaw to go the killing fields as this grim place is located on the other corner of the city.

The Killing Fields

This is literary a killing field. One of the places where Polpot killed people and buried in mass graveyards. The place is now quiet a tourist attraction and the management has organized audio tours. This audio tour facility takes you on the same route that prisoners went through during the last couple of days in their lives. You might be able to create a photo story about how these prisoners must have spent their last few days at the Killing Fields before death. In the middle of the premise, there is a tall monument that contains most of the human skulls collected from the field. These skulls have been cleansed and segmented according to the age and gender. There are thousands of skulls and there are only few places in the world you would see such many human skulls in one place on display.

Then it takes you to various shelters where they kept prisoners without food or water. And then the place where they were tortured and executed. Finally, the places where they were buried. There are so many mass graveyards. Most graveyards are bigger than 50 square feet. These graveyards are covered with a protective fence and numbered and explained. There are some grave yards with human bones, clothes of prisoners are on display. There was this tree used to called as ‘The Killing Tree’ which executioners beat the small children and killed.

You probably are too depressed and tired to go anywhere else now… So, go back to your hotel and get rest. Tomorrow you can visit the Royal Palace of Cambodia.

Royal Palace

Situated at one corner of the Sothearos Boulevard, Royal Palace is the official residence of the King Sihamoni of Cambodia. You can get a tour guide from the entrance who would explain you the significance of the building. Silver Pagoda is one of the must visit attractions in the city. They called this the Silver Pagoda because the building is inlaid with Silver tiles. This is the place where various gifts the King has received would be on display. If you have not seen a pure Emerald Buddha statue before, you would see one here. Gleaming green of the statue could be a masterpiece object for some abstract photography.

Tonle Sap River

Stroll back along the Tonle Sap River towards the city centre. This is one of the biggest rivers in Cambodia. It would be a pleasant photograph to capture the golden sun rays beaming on the waves in the evening. You might like to take a boat ride but best to wait till late evening to avoid the heat. There are lots of cafes and pubs on the water front targeting tourists. So, you can pick one and have you lunch with a beer and chill.

Tonle Sap River

If you want to try some unique Cambodian street food, go to the Russian market in the evening. From fried insects to boiled duck foetus can be found here. Really delicious, really nutritious, and truly a fancy food to eat.

Phnom Penh is a city full of general chaos. However, it is a fusionist city with Chinese, Indian, Vietnamese and Western world. If you are travelling in Cambodia, Phnom Penh is one city you would want to capture real life of a Cambodian.

Cheers, till I see you again…!!!

Visit Helsinki. Helsinki is a city middle of nature. A lot of trees, green parks and more.

What to visit in Helsinki and where to go to take photographs: visit Eira, Kaivopuisto park, Suomenlinna fortress, Kauppatori, museums, city centre and shopping mall in Kamppi zone, Vuosaari.

Eira is a beautiful zone in Helsinki. Houses are more expensive there. Located near all attractions of the centre by walking distance and located near Kaivopuisto park, read more about Eira.

Kaivopuisto is a popular green park middle of the Helsinki city centre. The park is located near Eira and all main attractions. Walking distance also to Kauppatori main market square and to harbour. You can walk up to the hill and take photographs of the city, parks and ships. Nice place especially in the summer season. More about Kaivopuisto.

Rautatientori is called the main train station and when you go by underground around the city you should remember this name because it’s the centre and the main station. You won’t get lost easily if you stay example in the centre near the train station when you remember this name Rautatientori. The station is also one place for photogaphers, there is interesting details. Helsinki airport is out of the city center located in Helsinki Vantaa but you can go to the city centre from the airport by train or bus. For the connection information you can check VR www.vr.fi/cs/vr/en/frontpage and the bus connection: www.hsl.fi/en
Suomenlinna fortress is part of Unesco World Heritage List and if you like Unesco’s attractions you should visit there.

Kauppatori main market square located all of these attractions such as old Helsinki Cathedral, market hall, Senate square, harbour, Ateneum museum, Rautatientori, Kaivopuisto, Eira and more.

Seurasaari is open air museum on island and has historic Finnish cottages and remind me of Swedish and Danish cottages.

Linnanmäki amusementpark and also green Alppenpark next to the amusementpark.

If you would like to take photographs of animals you could visit Korkeasaari zoo located in island. Possible to go there by ferry or by bus number 16 from Rautatientori main train station. Helsinki city has now also Cat cafe called Helkatti Fredrikinkatu 55, near Kamppi underground station.

Helsinki, Finland

Vuosaari is a green east side of the city. Easy connection by direct underground to the centre but it would take about 30 minutes by underground. Summer season you could photograph green parks with flowers and also cherry blossom trees. The zone is called Aurinkolahti, meaning is the sun bay. Once I was living in this zone and liked.

Helsinki, Finland

When to visit: I would recommend summer absolutely because winter could be rainy (because climate change) or frozen season. Summer has also a lot of more of sunlight. Finland has 4 seasons: cold or rainy winter with or without snow, mild or warm green summer, colorful fall, incalculable spring.

It’s also possible to travel to Sweden, Estonia, Germany and to Russia from Helsinki by ship and train. It would take only 1 day to visit Estonia and come back to Helsinki, this is one chance. Also possible to go to Lapland from Helsinki. Helsinki has boat tours check Strömmä Helsinki sightseeing cruises. Then you could visit islands neat the centre and take photographs of the islands.

Nestled between the majestic Andean mountains in the South American country of Peru, is the little village of Pisac. This quaint, cobblestone town is a back-packers paradise with bustling craft and farmers markets, cozy cafes, mountain hiking and year round cultural festivities. It is also a photographers dream as it offers exceptional imagery due to its intimate atmosphere.

Andean Trail

Andean Trail

Located at the base of an imposing mountain, Pisac is the doorway to the sacred valley of Peru. In the fields and terraces just outside of town, local villagers tend the fields sacred corn. If shot in the early morning, when the mountains are filled with mist, the corn stalks look like an ocean of golden blossoms. Just outside of town, you can capture some great shots of women dressed in hand-woven, traditional clothing ushering herds of alpaca up the hillsides. Be sure to pack your hiking boots, as many locations will require an uphill climb in order to maximize the view. During the winter season it is wise to keep a raincoat with you as well, as the weather in Pisac can quickly change. However, the dynamism of this natural environment creates beautiful lighting.

Native Flower

Native Flower

Walking through the dreamy streets of Pisac the smell of fresh bread fills the air as local women carry bundles of herbs, wrapped in fabric and slung across their shoulders. Visiting the Sunday market is sure to provide ample opportunity for shooting authentic village life. Arrive early, before the scene gets too chaotic and you’ll find a scene ripe with color and texture. People from all around the world pass through this village on a daily basis, so if you are looking for interesting characters to photograph, this place is full of shamans, healers and spiritual seekers.

Pre-Incan Ruins

Pre-Incan Ruins

Etched into the mountainside just behind the Pisac village, ancient Incan ruins reveal themselves as stone buildings and towers rise out of the steep slopes. The ascent is treacherous as tight pathways wind around rocky edges. Just beyond the Incan archaeological ruins the trail leads to an even more mysterious, technologically advanced site known as Intihuatana, house of the sun. If the weather is clear, shooting with warm sunset lighting can really bring the stones to life. Be sure to plan enough time for a strong hike in order to capture the beauty of this magical place.

Intihuatana

Although not the quietest, nor the busiest village in the sacred valley, Pisac is unique, not only geographically as a crossroads for people, cargo and business, but also as a symbol of a world that is becoming smaller and smaller. With so many wonderful things to shoot in such a small area, Pisac is a worthy consideration for any photographic adventure to Peru.

Have you ever heard about Angkor temples OR wondered what is there in Cambodia to see? Then, it is time to pack bags for your next journey. Because Cambodia holds one of the greatest historical ruins that will soothe your photographic thirst.

Siem Reap

Arrange tickets to arrive at the Siem Reap International Airport where most tourists start their travel in the country. If you could book your hotel before arriving, it would be great as during the season (November to March), the most hotels are booked and you may find it difficult to get a decent hotel on arrival. However, don’t worry if you are a budget traveller as there are many budget accommodation places in central Siem Reap area. I recommend Banyan Leaf Hotel in Taphul village, with my personal experience as one very good place. You could use one of those rikshaws on road to arrive as taxi cars could be expensive. Just give the address and agree for the price before you get in to the vehicle. Well, if you still carry US Dollars and wants to exchange to Cambodian currency, do not bother as almost all the vendors in Cambodia accepts US dollars and due to very high exchange rate, you would have to carry loads of local currency notes if you do so.

If you like to cycle around, you can hire a bicycle from one of the many places in the city. But Cambodia has a very humid warm weather that would make you sweat and dehydrate you within hours. Arrange a rikshaw to take you to places.

So, get some rest because you would have to get up early morning next day to start your journey to the history of Cambodia.

Angkor Wat

It is said that Angkor Wat is the largest temple premise in the whole world. Build out of rock, this place has been a castle as well as a Buddhist monastery. If you are planning to photograph the best view of Angkor Wat, you must get up early and be at the place by 5.00am. because it is said, that the best view of Angkor Wat comes along with the sun rise. Thousands of tourists gather around the moat to watch sun rising over the Angkor Wat temple. There are enough places for you to set up your tripod and arrange for the best angle if you go early.

Angkor Wat Temple premises

Once you get you photographs of the outer premise, walk inside. This is a huge temple building with so many corridors and doors and one could easily get disoriented. Observe carefully for the rock carvings on walls as those carvings reveals great historical incidents in Cambodia as well as in their neighbouring countries. Famous Ram-Ravana war in Sri Lanka is one of the prominent wall carvings in the front wing of the temple. There are outer foyers to walk around the temple and see both inside and outside both at once. But careful of your step as the foyer is several feet high from the floor and there are extremely narrow, steep staircases to move from one floor to another a floor.

Wall carvings of Ancient tales

Bayon is the next place to visit. This amazing temple has been a castle of Jayawarman kings and the humongous rock carvings on all sides of the castle has been vividly argued as the faces of Jayawarman kings or Avalokitheshwara: a compassion of Bodhisattva. These huge carvings will be worthy photographic opportunities in your life, so make sure you take enough photos.

Bayon

Have you watched the movie Tomb Raider? Ta Prohm is the place where that movie was shot and you will remember the scenes from the movie when you enter this temple. Covered with large roots of a tree, this ancient building is about to collapse therefore not allowed to go inside. But you can go close enough to take a rare photo of a tree root entangling with the rocky walls and clay roof of the temple. Fix your camera settings to capture the sun rays dripping down the tree during mid-day.

Ta Prohm: The Tomb Raider Temple

You would need another day to come to the historical Angkor ruins site. So, make sure you purchase a multiday tour ticket which allows you to come on another day. The ticket counters are well organized and issues a personalized ticket with your face printed on it. Keep the ticket with you all the time as the guards at the entrance gates come and check tickets time to time. Distance from one ruin to another is long and walking is probably not a good option as the total site spans over 160 hectares with thick jungles on either side of the road. But if you get hungry or thirsty, there are enough local food stalls inside the premise.

Keep the next day to visit other temples such as Angkor Thom, Banteay Srei, Phnom Bakheng, Ta Som and Baphuon. These amazing architectural marvels with long corridors and bottomless wells will sure marvel you and your camera. Make sure to use a flasher when taking photos inside building as thick rocky walls rarely provide any light inside.

Angkor Thom

Central city has some luxurious hotels that has cultural dancing shows featuring the ‘Apsara’ dancers. You can go to one of those shows in the evening.

If you are done with ancient ruins, you could attend a full day village excursion and learn to cook some local dishes or have a flight of the gibbon ride in a thick Cambodian tropical forest or have a cycle ride across the city or even a hot air balloon ride to see the bigger picture.

Hot Air Balloon ride over Siem Reap

Siem Reap has some great variety of restaurants so you can make sure to try something new in every meal.

Eat some fruits and have a dip in the swimming pool and get some rest in the last day, because once you are done with Siem Reap, you would take a bus ride to Phnom Penh to see the modern Cambodia.

So, enjoy Siem Reap and be amazed with ancient marvels of Angkor Wat. I’ll see you back on the other side of Cambodia.
