Sardinia is a beautiful island to visit. Many coastal views great for nature photographers. Sardinia is a Mediterranean island part of Italy. Has a lot of to offer for nature photographers: beaches, forests, mountains, cliffs, animals, harbors, villages. Sardinia has a rich history and special attractions such as nuraghi and towers. Crystal clear sea views. Sometime the color of the sea changes from bright crystal clear to light blue, if the weather is cloudy. Summer has many days with a clear sky and bright sunshine. The light is good for taking photographs around.

Sardinia has tourist resorts such as Costa Smeralda and also not so well known little villages and cities without many tourists but photography spots with nature and sea view. The best way to go around the island is by car or tour. There is also a train connection but not to everywhere, example to Italy mainland must go by ferry or flight.

What can I photograph in Sardinia. Traveling to Sardinia

How to arrive: there is a port example in Porto Torres with ferry connections to Spain Barcelona, Civitavecchia (near Rome) and to Genoa Italy. Ferries around the year usually everyday. Example Tirrenia, Moby and Grimaldi lines ferries. Those are usually about 100e 1 night but cheaper offers without a cabin. Flights usually available to Alghero and Cagliari. Alghero is a Catalan city in Sardinia and summer holiday destination with beaches. At least sometime there is boat tours to caves and dolphin watching boat trips. Also tours to Asinara island. Cagliari is the capital of Sardinia and there you could see flamingos. Summer season weather could get extremely hot and people go to Sardinia usually for beaches example to Stintino and to Villasimius tourist resorts. Sardinia is still a peaceful holiday destination with a lot of nature.

About the nature

you will see green landscapes, beaches, you could see green hills and mountains, cliffs, palm tree streets close to the sea, lagoons, green valleys, flowers, lakes, birds and more. For bird watchers and photographers there is Molentargius Saline park Santa Gilla lagoon in Cagliari. You could go to Monte Urbino panoramic viewpoint to watch flamingos. See nuragic village in Barumini. If you visit Giara di Gesturi you could see wild horses there. Wild horses of Giara are considered the last surviving horses of an ancient breed. You could see waterfalls example coastal waterfall at Coasta Nieddu on west coast. Asinara island is a wildlife and marine preserve. National Park island of Asinara is home to a population of wild Albino donkeys from which the island may take its name but there is also bulls, turtles, birds, lizards and dolphins. Su Pallosu island has a cat colony. There cats play with each other and with visitors. It’s possible to visit the cat island but must book a tour first. Local not-for-profit organization take care of the cats. I like Sardinia and I will return someday.

Spain has many interesting cities and places to go and places in Spain has definitely some of the most interesting attractions for pictures of Spain. Barcelona is one of the most popular European capitals and often Spain photos has Barcelona included. Barcelona has a lot of to offer for Photographers: beaches, cityscapes, Montjuic mountain, fountains, Parc Güell, Gaudi’s colorful and unique architecture, near by beach cities such as Sitges. If you travel to Spain it’s possibile to visit Sitges by train or ferry. Sitges is a coastal town near Barcelona. Barcelona has many kind of city zones: the city centre and Sagrada Familia and then the beach zones. If you have already seen the whole Barcelona and it’s attractions you could go to visit Sitges by train or by ferry from Barcelona and take photographs. Sitges is a beautiful beach town with white houses. Don’t forget to visit also other places and take pictures of Spain. Bullfighting is not anymore permitted in Catalonia fortunately.

People often say Andalucia is the Original Spain, the real pearl. One of the most charming places in Spain. Go to find out what it means to you. Take Spain photos around Sevilla attractions. Andalucia has many unique places to visit and it’s great for Spain images. Visit Granada’s Alhambra Palace. The name “Andalusia” is derived from the Arabic word Al-Andalus. Visit Sevilla for attractions and photograph. It’s possible to see flamingo birds if you visit Andalucia. Flamingo Lake called as Laguna de Fuente de Piedra.

Mallorca is one of the most popular travel destinations in Europe for summer holidays and no wonder when you take photographs of Mallorca and deep blue sea views. Palma is often full of tourists especially in summer but you can find also different places in Mallorca. Palma is lively tourist city and has beaches, harbour and citylife. Try also Alcudia for the beach holiday. Deep blue sea is beautiful to photograph. You could go by ferry to Spain mainland and to Menorca island. Many celebrities and even Royalties loves Mallorca and the Island is enchanting for many people. Go to find out if you will like Mallorca. Mallorca is popular places in Spain but Menorca has still nature and empty beaches.

Gran Canary Islands

Tourist Islands has Holiday destinations for summer and winter but also something more. Visit Teide volcano and National Park for photograph. My favorite is Mogan, it’s beautiful place to see and photograph. White houses with red flowers around. Puerto Rico I like. I saw tropical landscapes and I saw there a humming bird. If you are lucky you could try to photograph humming bird. Palmitos Park is a park with birds. Sand dunes in Playa del Ingles and Maspalomas. Gran Canary has a lot of tourists visiting and living there. Gran Canary is one of the most popular places in Spain. When I visited there roads were good and I really enjoyed going around the island when I had air condition. Summer weather could be extremely hot but winter is also a good season to visit. If you go to dunes prepare and keep scarf because sand could fly around. If you are looking for city+beach life visit big cities example Puerto Rico, Maspalomas. I found one very beautiful beach called Playa de los Amadores in Puerto Rico. Perfect for photographers who take beach photos. Teneriffe Island has a lot of more flowers and green landscapes than Gran Canary. Gran Canary is mainly dry but Teneriffe is more green. Why you should visit there: if it doesn’t bother that example Playa del Ingles is often full of tourists but you can go to take photographs around the islands.

Alicante

The sunny coast has beaches for summer holidays and sometimes carnivals. Hike uphill to photograph Santa Barbara Castle. Photograph sea views, palm trees, mountains, streets and boats. Go to boat tour and take photographs of the coast. Nature is mostly dry but you could find also few flowers to photograph. Historic Mediterranean port and ferry connection example to North Africa and Balearic Islands. Costa Blanca (white coast) is one of those popular holiday places in Spain.

What to visit in Helsinki and where to go to take photographs: visit Eira, Kaivopuisto park, Suomenlinna fortress, Kauppatori, museums, city centre and shopping mall in Kamppi zone, Vuosaari.

Eira is a beautiful zone in Helsinki. Houses are more expensive there. Located near all attractions of the centre by walking distance and located near Kaivopuisto park, read more about Eira.

Kaivopuisto is a popular green park middle of the Helsinki city centre. The park is located near Eira and all main attractions. Walking distance also to Kauppatori main market square and to harbour. You can walk up to the hill and take photographs of the city, parks and ships. Nice place especially in the summer season. More about Kaivopuisto.

Rautatientori is called the main train station and when you go by underground around the city you should remember this name because it’s the centre and the main station. You won’t get lost easily if you stay example in the centre near the train station when you remember this name Rautatientori. The station is also one place for photogaphers, there is interesting details. Helsinki airport is out of the city center located in Helsinki Vantaa but you can go to the city centre from the airport by train or bus. Suomenlinna fortress is part of Unesco World Heritage List and if you like Unesco’s attractions you should visit there.

Kauppatori main market square located all of these attractions such as old Helsinki Cathedral, market hall, Senate square, harbour, Ateneum museum, Rautatientori, Kaivopuisto, Eira and more.

Seurasaari is open air museum on island and has historic Finnish cottages and remind me of Swedish and Danish cottages.

Linnanmäki amusementpark and also green Alppenpark next to the amusementpark.

If you would like to take photographs of animals you could visit Korkeasaari zoo located in island. Possible to go there by ferry or by bus number 16 from Rautatientori main train station. Helsinki city has now also Cat cafe called Helkatti ​Fredrikinkatu 55, near Kamppi underground station.

Vuosaari is a green east side of the city. Easy connection by direct underground to the centre but it would take about 30 minutes by underground. Summer season you could photograph green parks with flowers and also cherry blossom trees. The zone is called Aurinkolahti, meaning is the sun bay. Once I was living in this zone and liked.

When to visit: I would recommend summer absolutely because winter could be rainy (because climate change) or frozen season. Summer has also a lot of more of sunlight. Finland has 4 seasons: cold or rainy winter with or without snow, mild or warm green summer, colorful fall, incalculable spring.

It’s also possible to travel to Sweden, Estonia, Germany and to Russia from Helsinki by ship and train. It would take only 1 day to visit Estonia and come back to Helsinki, this is one chance. Also possible to go to Lapland from Helsinki. Helsinki has boat tours check Strömmä Helsinki sightseeing cruises. Then you could visit islands neat the centre and take photographs of the islands.

You will find churches, palaces and green nature. Dresden has a Royal Palace and you will find there interesting things to see and locations for Germany photos. Palace is called as Dresdner Residenzschloss. Follow the river and you will see nature. It’s good combination city+nature. If you would like to take more even more photographs you can go by train to visit Czech near by. It will only take about 2 hours to go by train from Dresden to Prague, Czech. I visited Dresden and I think I will return someday.

2. Cologne

I think Cologne is interesting city for Photographers. City has a huge Dom church, middle of everything. There is Rhine River near the city centre and possibility for river cruises or sightsee cruise. Take pictures around the city and around Rhine river. You will see river ships passing by. Good choice also for a night photo shoot. It’s nice to walk from the city to Riverside it’s green. Summer time people go to riverside for a picnic. Nearby is Dusseldorf city and it will take only few hours to go from Cologne to Belgium. Great location. Cologne has many cafes with a good Italian ice cream. Cologne is one of European cities worth to photograph.

3. Neuschwanstrein, Fairytale Castle

Located in Northern Bavaria. Beautiful castle and great location for photographers. Castle has also little waterfalls. Middle of nature and it’s a destination also for nature photographers. If you would like to photograph art pictures this one of the best European destinations.

4. Berlin Canals

Berlin is famous and often visited by tourists. You will find the canal side when you arrive by train to main train station. Green side is beautiful side of the city. Palaces: Charlottenburg,  Babelsberg Palace, The Belvedere on the Pfingstberg, NeuesPalais, Glienicke palace, Sanssouci.  You could also visit Poland from Berlin.

5. Schwerin Castle

Located in Schwerin and on an island in the city’s main lake. Photograph the castle, Palace park garden and lake.

6. Nuremberg Castle and City Walls

Nuremberg is also one of those Historical Medieval cities. Around the city Medieval city walls. Nowadays it’s also a modern city so you could see metro under the city walls. The city has also Christmas markets. Handicraft market is located near the train station behind and middle of the city walls close to Tourism office. Handicraft market is open usually almost every day and has a Medieval feeling.  The castle, together with the city walls is considered to be one of Europe’s most formidable medieval fortifications. Nuremberg is often referred to as having been the ‘unofficial capital’ of the Holy Roman Empire, particularly because Imperial Diet(Reichstag) and courts met at Nuremberg Castle. Robber baron Eppelein von Gailingen took the opportunity to escape by galloping to the wall and forcing his horse to jump above it into the moat. The city has also churches for Photographers.

7. Passau

Little town in Bavaria remind me of Austria. City of Three Rivers: Danube, Passau and Inn. Gothic and Baroque Architecture. River Cruises pass this city to Vienna and around and photographers could have a chance to take photographs of river cruises. Possibility to travel to Vienna from this town also by train it would take about 3-4 hours. Passau has Veste Oberhaus fortress on the Hill and visible to the city center. All is by walking distance like the train station, old town and fortress. Fortress Oberhaus is currently the site of a museum, a youth hostel, and a restaurant, as well as an open-air theatre.

8. Wurzburg’s Castle Marienberg Fortress

Europe tourist attractions include Marienberg Forestress in Wurzburg. The fortress is located on a prominent spur of the 266-meter-high Marienberg which rises about 100 meters over the Main river. Absolutely worth for photographers who like Medieval castles. Photographs of Germany you won’t forget.

9. Frankfurt

You will see old and also modern architecture in Frankfurt. The city has both. You could take Amazing Night Photographs of the modern buildings. There is also nature. The city is located on both sides of the Main River. It could come as a surprise how the city has very new high buildings but also very old buildings. Germany’s largest city forest on southern part called as Frankfurter Stadtwald. City remind me of somehow Sheffield UK. If you travel to Germany, it’s great to visit Wetzlar where they make famous Leica camera. While there, you can schedule Leica headquarters tour.

10. Rhine Valley and Bavarian Alps

If you take River cruise you could see valleys and cities. Sometimes there is castles and other landmarks you may see when you are on board. Koblenz has historic attractions. Best time to visit Germany for beautiful Germany photos? Weather is warm in summer season and then you could see more flowers and more of green nature. It’s also easier to take bright pictures when is summer or spring. Anytime is good time to visit Bavarian Alps. You will see Bavarian Alps if you fly to Munich. Rosenheim is very near Alps.

Greece tourism: Athens has a Great location for Greece photos and Athens is one of the best Greece tourism destinations. Visit Greek islands after you have seen Historical attractions in Athens first. Athens is one of the most oldest cities in the world and worth for Europe travel. You can go by tour bus to Acropolis. Then you could walk up to hill and see the whole city. If you decide not to walk up to hill then you must zoom for taking photographs of Acropolis. Athens has lemon trees in the centre and also has a beach side with cafes. Piraeus harbour side is also worth to visit and you could go by ferry to visit Islands. You can go by yourself or buy island hopping or book Greece tourism cruise from agency.

2. Santorini

One of the most beautiful and popular Greece islands. Santorini is a good Greece tourism destination for Greece travel photos. White houses on the hills, blue sea and Amazing  sunsets. Definitely beautiful place to see. Go to take photos early in the morning or in the evening then there could be less tourists and sunset. You could visit Santorini by flight or cruise, Santorini is often included if you search cruise to Greek Islands. Greek Islands are mostly peaceful places to visit and has no mosquito problems or at least I never heard. It’s not difficult to find great locations in Santorini for Greece tourism photos when you travel to Greece. Santorini is absolutely one of the Top 10 Greece photo destinations.

2. Mykonos

Beautiful sea views, beaches, tavernas and houses on the hills. Mostly all you can expect from Greece tourism. Mykonos may look like a Little Santorini. Interesting corners with magical flowers with bright colors. Mykonos has a lot of to offer for Greece travel photographers: sea, flowers, architecture, cats, houses. You could see crystal clear sea. I saw these houses on the hill when I was on board and it was one of the best experiences of Greece holiday. You could arrive also by cruise because Mykonos is often included. You can find good Greek food and honey ice cream. Greece tourism is one of the most important sector’s in Greece.

3. Corfu

Island in the Ionian sea. Mountainous island with long beaches. You could  see a lot of nature, flowers and fruit trees. Byzantine castle called Angelokastro. Photograph Achilleion Palace and it’s terrace with Palm trees. How to get there: example flight from Athens or ferry from Bari Italy to Corfu. You could then visit both Italy and Greek island. Did you know: in the 12th century, the Kingdom of Naples sent some Italian families to Corfu to rule the island. From the Fourth Crusade of 1204 onwards, the Republic of Venice sent many Italian families to Corfu. These families brought the Italian language of the Middle Ages to the island.

4. Zakynthos

Photographers often want to photograph the beach but you can find also more to photograph in Zakynthos. Greece tourism has a lot of to offer. Zakynthos has Blue Caves and sea turtles. You could see monk seals, birds, butterflies, small lizards are useful because lizards eat mosquitos. Good destination for photographs of Greece but also for nature photographers. 5. Skopelos

Skopelos became more famous after Mamma Mia movie and needs tourists to visit. Have you already watched full of music movie, the movie has positive attitude. Skopeles has crystal water and beaches. Beautiful place to visit also. Greece includes 6000 islands but only 227 Greek islands are inhabited.

One of the most sunny destinations in Europe and also popular for Greece holidays. Third largest Greek island in the Mediterranean. Located near Turkey and there is ferry connection from Cyprus to Turkey. One of the warmest winters in Europe but you could also see snow if you visit The Troodos Mountains. Sunshine hours on the coast are double that of cities in the northern half of Europe. It’s also easier to take photographs when there is bright sunshine. Sunny Greece holiday destination. Northern Cyprus is officially the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Recognised only by Turkey, Northern Cyprus is considered by the international community to be part of the Republic of Cyprus. Cyprus has also great food.

7. Crete and Palmforest

Visit palmforest of Vai in Crete. It’s a Special place in Mediterranean. According to the commonest story, Arab pirates came here in their ships, ate the dates they had brought with them and threw the stones on the ground. From these dates grew about 6,000 palm trees. A different legend has it that the forest was created in a similar manner by Phoenician sailors. The reality is there have been palm trees in Crete since ancient times, as historical sources, including Pliny attest. Mediterranean countries has many Palm street beaches but not anymore so many palm groves. You could also visit Heraklion the largest city in Crete.

8. Samos

Beautiful Subtropical Nature, Wildlife and Sea Views. Don’t forget Samos when you want to visit subtropical destination in Greece. Samos is the Island of the father of mathematics, Pythagoras, the astronomer Aristarchus and the philosopher Epicurus. See temple. Mountains Mt. Kerkis and Mt. Ambelos with alpine winter temperatures. Birds and rare plants. Glyfada Lake where is possibility to see sometime pink flamingos and Dalmatian pelicans. Karlovassi Waterfalls 5 metres high. Myrtle, many locust trees, apple, cherry, fig and pear trees, cedars. You could see animals such as: Chameleons, wild boars, jackals, bugs, birds, dolphins between Samos, Ikaria and Fournoi.

9. Thessaloniki

Second largest city in Greece. Capital of Greek Macedonia. One of the European cities worth to visit. If you like Historical cities you should visit Thessaloniki. The city has Film Festivals and Song Festivals. For 2013, National Geographic Magazine included Thessaloniki in its top tourist destinations worldwide.  Among street photographers, the center of Thessaloniki is also considered the most popular destination for street photography in Greece. You will see Byzantine and Ottoman architecture. Go out to take pictures also in the evening and moonlight will make pictures to look like magical. Greek had a big influence to many countries in Southern Europe. Italy and France has a lot of similar than Greece in culture and even in cuisine.

10. Meteora

Italy is full of Places to go and excellent for photographers. One of the best European destinations. You can take great pictures of Italy. First you must choose if you visit little villages or big cities for Italy photos. Northern Italy is different if compared to Southern (subtropical) Italy. Venice is popular and no wonder. Venice is still a beautiful and unique city surrounded by canals and bridges. Interesting architecture and you could even find Green Parks. You can walk around Venice and take photographs. If you want to visit Venice when it’s not full of tourists then try to choose Fall or Spring season. Visit also Cannaregio it’s still a cheaper zone. Near the train station you could find Cannaregio zone but also a Green Park, bridges and Unique Architecture. Venice has many most famous Europe tourist attractions like Rialto and much more. Green Parks: Parco Savorgnan, Giardino Papadopoli, Parco delle Rimembranze, Giardinetti Reali, Giardini Pubblici, Parco di Villa Groggia. Venice has always interesting places for photographers. Capri is just like a postcard so beautiful place near Naples. You could go by ferry or hydrofoil from Naples to Capri Island. Capri has beautiful houses and Great views. Take photographs of the Capri near harbor but also go to Hillside to take photographs. Wait for the sunset (or sunrise) and you won’t be disappointed with those views.

3. Garda Lake

Many people love Garda and no wonder. You will find Amazing views, swans and beautiful sunsets. You could go to little villages by lake ferry or by bus. First you could come to Garda by train from Verona city. Many destinations to choose: Peschiera del Garda, Riva del Garda, Sirmione and much more. If you want to take photographs of swans go to peaceful lake side in the morning or also in the afternoon. If you don’t see any birds you could ask if locals know but usually swans come to beg food so you will see a lot of birds around the Lake and usually you don’t have to search around. You will see also colorful architecture and mountains. You can walk around and you won’t need all the time some transfer when you stay in the center of the village. Visit also Isola del Garda island by guided tour, open from May until October. When you visit Garda you can take art pictures just wait for the sunset or sunshine.

4. Sicily Island

You will find a lot of places to visit and take photographs. You could see Ancient villages, Beach Cities, Castles, Palaces, Mountains, Volcano Etna, Stromboli Island, Beaches and much more. Climate is subtropical and usually warmer than in mainland. Green landscapes and flowers valleys in the spring. Go to visit Etna and you will see a totally different landscapes with lava. Amazing sunsets. Places to visit: Giardini Naxos and Taormina, Mondello beach in Palermo, Cefalu, Ragusa, Messina, Catania, Castellammare del Golfo, Stromboli, Etna, Palazzo Manganelli, Lampedusa Island, Greek theater in Taormina, Segesta Temple, Siracusa.

5. Flowers

In the Spring and Summer, you will find a lot of flowers around Italy but here are some places to mention: Garda, Sardinia Island, Capri, Sicily, flower fields in Tuscany. Scenic route from San Giovanni d’Asso to Siena Tuscany. Near the coast Pian d’Alma. Near Castiglione della Pescaia. June is a good month to see flower fields in Tuscany.

6. Verona

If you like to take photographs of Medieval cities and towns then you should visit Verona. Spring and summer season you will see also a lot of flowers and Flower Festivals. Many Green Parks. Shakespeare’s Juliet house. You will see Roman Amphitheater in the center. Visit also Garden Parco Sigurta.

7. Rome

One of the most popular travel destinations and popular European capitals. Full of Ancient History and Attractions. Take photographs of Colosseum Amphitheater, Gladiators, flower balconies, architecture, art, statues and much more. Almost every corner has something to offer for Photographers: lion statues, church, amphitheaters, museums and much more. Visit also green Villa Borghese, Palatine Hill full of history, Trastevere, Capitoline Hill. Civitavecchia is a harbor city about 1-2h by train from Rome. You could buy a ticket for visiting both Colosseum and Palatine Hill. Colosseum is located near Palatine Hill. Walk around the city or go by Underground or by Sightsee bus around the city. Rome is absolutely top European destinations.

8. Como

You will see suptropical landscapes and Italian Alps. Villa Carlotta 14-acres of landscaped gardens and very beautiful. Good plus is also that you can go by train to visit Switzerland and Milan after Como.

9. Cinque Terre

Seaside villages in Italian Riviera. Colorful houses on the hill. Just like postcards. Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore. How to get there: by train from Genoa, Milan or by train from Livorno.

10. Amalfi

One of the most beautiful place in Italy and beautiful as a dream. You will see houses on the hills, flowers, sea views and more. How to get there: from Naples by bus or by ferry.
