Thought for the day: Do you need a Model Release?
The ballerina we worked with a couple of days ago did sign model releases but requested that we not publish any pictures of her doing ballet until she had reviewed them. She wanted to ensure that those pictures were the best possible quality (as her livelihood depended on her ballet reputation). Which we agreed to. Even though she did not write that into the model releases.
Depending on what you are doing with your photos you may or may not need a release. Most contests do not require a release, a few do. If you sell a photo for editorial usage a release generally isn’t needed. If you sell a photo for advertising use, a release is needed. Note that I am not talking about Street Photography implied releases as I am not a street photographer.
I use releases from the ASMP (and overview material). Another well though of source is Getty Images. Note that I am not a lawyer and this isn’t legal advise.
