Quote: “To me, photography is an art of observation. It’s about finding something interesting in an ordinary place… I’ve found it has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them.” — Elliott Erwitt

Thought for the day: Who are your peers? Whose work do you aspire to be compared to?
If you are trying to produce great pictures (opposed to records of your family or life) who are the people whose work you compare yours to? That you want your work to equal or exceed? Whose work is so much better than your that you wish your work to be compared favorably towards?
You may be the least competitive person in the world and look only at your own work, but you should be aware of other work, similar or dissimilar, at your level (or slightly above) and those whose work is world class in the field you are interested in.
There is a saying in the Art of Management, “If you can’t measure it, you can’t improve it.” (attributed to Peter Drucker-=who may have said something similar. Different sources give different answers).
The point is, if you have nothing to compare your work to, how can you tell if you are treading water or actually making progress? To improve you have to measure what you are doing against something else.
So who are your peers that you measure yourself against?
You should revisit this question as you improve or as your interests/tastes change.
